Project Idea: Students study animals inNorth Carolina, focusing on the region, habitat, physical and behavioral adaptations. They will determine what elements in the environment that allows them to survive.

Driving Question: AsNorth Carolina scientists, can we determine the successful survival of animals in different regions ofNorth Carolina?

Content: -Science Standard: 4.L.1: Understand the effects of environmental changes,
adaptations and behaviors that enable animals (including humans) to survive in
changing habitats.
-Social Studies Standard: 4.G.1.3: Exemplify the interactions of various peoples, places and cultures in terms of adaptation and modification of the environment.
Students will read informational texts about animals fromNorth Carolina, websites, magazines, writing informational texts.

Major Student Products: Flip book, map, illustrations, informational writing.
